A tourism platform that keeps a thousand listings current on its own
The regional tourism authority's platform, with automated daily sync from the Australian Tourism Data Warehouse, property discovery, a migrated learning system and auto-scaling AWS infrastructure defined in Terraform.
The problem
Barossa Australia promotes an entire wine region: cellar doors, accommodation, tours and events run by more than a thousand independent operators. Every one of those listings lived in the Australian Tourism Data Warehouse, and every change had to be re-keyed onto the website by hand. The hosting behind it could not absorb campaign traffic, and an existing learning system for the industry had to come along for the move.
What we built
A rebuilt platform on WordPress with an automated ATDW sync that pulls, maps and publishes listing changes daily, plus property discovery for visitors planning a stay. The LearnDash learning system was migrated intact. Underneath, the infrastructure was defined in Terraform on AWS with auto scaling, so it grows with campaigns and shrinks between them.
What it changed
Listings stay current without anyone at the authority touching them. Traffic spikes during campaigns are absorbed automatically, and the whole environment can be rebuilt from code. The platform is live at barossa.com.
